January can be over ANY TIME NOW

January is usually the dreariest month. The holidays, with their days off and bright lights and parties and food, are over, but it’s still dark and cold. The one thing that’s helpful about January is that you can get back to routine. (I suppose that’s not helpful for everybody, but some of us like a nice predictable schedule.) This January? Not so much.

First, we went on vacation for a week. Now, I’m not saying vacation is a bad thing, but routine it ain’t.

Since getting back on the 11th, we’ve had

  • Two, count ’em, two squirrels that made their way into the chimney and down the pipe that vents the water heater, costing us a total of $300 and three days off of work;
  • Three days where my daughter’s school was closed due to extreme cold; and
  • A fire at work. (Nobody was hurt, thankfully.)

I really, really want my routine back, y’all.

I’m not trying to be all “woe is me” or say that my life is hard — everybody’s life around here has been disrupted at least some this month. And I’m incredibly fortunate that I can take time off when there’s no school or I have to stay home and wait for a plumber. It’s more that I want to remind myself not to feel too bad about not having done all the things I wanted to get done this month. Just making it through to February 1 will be plenty.
